November 2009
Principal’s Message
Dear Parents,
As we begin the third month of school, our staff and students continue to be highly focused on our work of teaching and learning. October was a busy month, and we are looking forward to a number of important events which will take place during the month of November.
Progress reports for the first term of the school year will be sent home on Wednesday, November 25, and parent-teacher conferences will be held the following week. Progress reports provide a snapshot of students’ learning and are a starting point for discussion between teachers and parents. Classroom teachers will be contacting parents to arrange conference times, and we look forward to seeing each and every one of you during the conference week. This is a critically important opportunity for you to be involved in your child’s education. Conferences are a vital component of home-school communication, and your attending your child’s conference certainly demonstrates the value you place on education.
At our character education assemblies on October 29, storyteller Renee Englot reviewed for our students the meaning of respect. She emphasized that when we respect other people’s feelings, we think about how what we do or say will make that person feel. Our students have learned that respect means treating people the way we would want to be treated, being polite and listening to what others have to say. Respect is the foundation for the prevention of injustice, prejudice and hatred.
Respect will also be our theme as we assemble on November 10, to remember those individuals who made great sacrifices in order to ensure that we live in a free and democratic nation. All parents are invited to join us for our two Remembrance assemblies, at 9:30 a.m. (K-2) and 10:30 a.m. (Gr. 3-6).
Thank you for your continued support of and involvement in your children’s education.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Renée McLaws
Principal
